To help high-performing families navigate the college preparation process more efficiently — with less stress and better results.
Book a Free Strategy Call →I was a good student in high school. Actually, I was a great student—straight A's, AP classes, all of that. So when I scored a 31 on my first ACT, I thought, "Okay, not bad, but I can do better." What I didn't expect was how hard "better" would be to achieve.
Like most high achievers, I figured I could just study my way to a higher score. I bought one of those massive prep books, spent my entire summer grinding through practice tests, and showed up to my second ACT confident I'd crushed it.
Another 31.
I remember the disappointment I felt—not just in the score, but in myself. Had I hit my ceiling? Was I just not cut out for standardized tests? My parents were supportive but had no idea how to help me. The guidance counselor at school just told me a 31 was "plenty good enough."
But I knew it wasn't good enough for the scholarships I needed or the schools I wanted.
The worst part? I had no idea what I was doing wrong. I was working hard, staying disciplined, doing everything I thought I should be doing. But I was stuck.
It wasn't until I completely changed my approach—stopped mindlessly taking practice tests and started understanding how the test actually worked—that everything clicked. Within weeks, I went from a 31 to a 36.
The score itself was great, but what really mattered was realizing that I wasn't broken. I just needed the right system.
And here's what that experience taught me: The ACT is probably the highest-leverage thing a student can work on during high school. Your GPA takes four years to build. Your extracurriculars take countless hours.
But your ACT score? With the right approach, you can transform it in 4-8 weeks. And that score opens doors to colleges you thought were out of reach and unlocks scholarship money that makes those colleges affordable.
My 36 changed everything for me.
I got into MIT and the University of Chicago.
I earned significant scholarship offers.
But more importantly, I saw how broken the system was. Most families (like mine) were getting terrible advice (or no advice at all), wasting time and money on methods that don't work, and watching their students burn out from dragging prep on for months or even years.
I started Boosted Brains because I believe high-achieving students deserve better than the broken system of traditional tutoring. They deserve coaching that empowers them, efficient methods that respect their time, and clear guidance that reduces stress instead of adding to it.
Since founding Boosted Brains, we've helped over 3,500 families achieve score improvements that unlocked millions of dollars in scholarships. But the numbers don't tell the whole story.
What really matters is the mom who stopped lying awake at night worrying if she was doing enough. The student-athlete who improved 9 points in 8 weeks and got offers from colleges that would've never looked at him before. The family that went from feeling overwhelmed and behind to feeling confident and in control.
This work matters because college selection is one of the most impactful decisions in a young person's life. Those four years from 18-22 shape everything that comes after—the connections you make, the education you receive, the opportunities you have access to.
And for most families, the ACT is the single biggest lever they can pull to influence that outcome.
That's our mission. That's why we do this. And that's why every member of our team is obsessed with getting your family the results you deserve.
Because your student isn't stuck. They just need the right approach.
Three principles that guide every coaching relationship and every decision we make
We take full accountability for results. When a student misses a milestone or a family has a question, we don't assign blame — we remove barriers, refine the plan, and get the work done. Every problem is solvable; our job is to find the solution.
Time is the highest-value resource for busy families. We eliminate busywork and focus only on high-leverage actions that move scores and applications forward.
We don't solve problems for students — we teach them how to solve problems themselves. By building skill, accountability, and agency, we create confident students and informed families who can sustain success long after coaching ends.
"Finally having a plan lifted a huge burden off my shoulders...For the first time in this college process, I felt like I knew exactly what we were supposed to be doing."
"We kept second-guessing ourselves — should he start prep now? Take it in April or June? Having a plan removed all that anxiety. We knew exactly what to do based on his college goals."
"I had 15 browsers open trying to piece together an ACT plan...after we joined the ACT Hacking Program, I didn't have to think about the ACT. Brody's coach managed everything for me!"
