A course delivers material on a fixed syllabus. An AI tutor answers questions the moment your student is stuck. What each one is actually for
A course is a delivery system: recorded or scheduled lessons, a syllabus, practice sets. It answers “what should a typical student learn, in what order?” — decided before your student arrived.
An AI tutor is a response system. Stuck at 10pm, your student asks, it explains — instantly and endlessly patient. What it doesn’t do is know your kid: it doesn’t notice a skipped week, doesn’t message on Sunday night when practice volume drops, and doesn’t see that Reading pacing — not Reading comprehension — is the leak. It answers the questions it’s asked, and struggling students don’t know which questions to ask.
A sprint coach owns the outcome. The plan is built backward from one diagnostic and one test date. Every practice test gets read by a person who adjusts the next week accordingly. The daily hour is aimed at your student’s two or three actual weaknesses, and when the schedule slips, someone notices in days — not at the score report.
Why the finish line matters as much as the coach
Courses and apps are open-ended by design — the subscription doesn’t want to end. A sprint is four to eight weeks against one date, which is what keeps intensity honest.
